Dancing with Horses Workshop, March 18 - 20, 2011
Dancing with horses
Participant, $225; Auditor, $30 per day. Lunch is included Saturday & Sunday, catered by our local eateries.
Participants: Maximum 15. Participants will interact with the others in the dance studio and will have hands-on experience with the horses.
Auditors: Unlimited. Auditors will be able to watch all portions of the workshop, both in the studio and at The Center for America‘s First Horse, but will not work with the horses or actively participate in the dance sessions.
Under the guidance of Mendl Shaw and Lockhart, participants will engage directly with horses to explore various spatial, psychological, and energetic concepts integral to the development of effective improvisation and partnership. Material learned from the horses will then be transferred to the studio and explored more deeply among the dancers.
Tentative Workshop Schedule
Friday, March 18
1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. - Registration, introduction to our horses, observation of the horses followed by a discussion on equine psychology, body language and communication. Handling of the horses to take place for those comfortable in this scenario.
Saturday, March 19 & Sunday, March 20
9:00 - 12:00 Meet JoAnna Mendl Shaw at Johnson State College dance studio.
12:00 - 1:00 Lunch break
1:30 - 4:00 Meet at The Center, horse interaction with JoAnna and Stephanie
4:30 - 5:00 Wrap up and discussion
